Role-Playing Guidelines: The Bare Essentials
1. Do not god-mode. It is discourteous to assume the actions of someone's character without consent. Any action performed on someone else's character should be phrased as an attempt, giving your fellow RPers a chance to accept or decline. However, there are times in which god-moding must be used to progress a storyline. Ask before narrating the actions/speech of a character that does not belong to you.
2. Allow other characters the chance to respond. Do not aspire for the last word in every verbal spar and/or make certain that your character always "gets in the last word" by exiting stage left before others can respond in kind. Collaborate with your fellow RPers before springing a physical assault on their character. You can do this by speaking to your group members OOC (Out of Character) or in private messaging.
3. Aim for decent length. It is common courtesy to give your fellow RPers enough content in which to respond. However, too much length and story progression in one instance can leave very little room for character interaction. Try to maintain a balance.
4. Mind what you say in OOC. If the infrequency, behavior, or style of a specific RPer is inhibiting the storyline's progress, please be courteous enough to use private messaging. Just as a respectable employer would not fire someone in full view of the office, an OP should not remove someone from the group in full view of the Role Play Hub community.
5. Polish your work. Remember that others are reading your work and come to rely heavily on its legibility in order to compose their own POVs. Try for the best grammar, punctuation and spelling that you can possibly manage.
spaceOriginal Posters are reserved the right to alter, within reason, the Role-Playing Guidelines. The RPH staff and community understands the necessity of freedom of expression, creativity and experimentation in writing. Some rules can and should be broken for the betterment of a narrative piece. These guidelines are the product of common courtesy, common sense, and respect for your fellow role-players and their written work. Please do not deviate from these guidelines unless the OP states otherwise.
